HiKinG TimP

Ever since Parker and I have been married we have had a dream, we've tried every year to achieve it. Some years I was pregnant or nursing, others we were out of state, and even on a few occasions we were packed and ready to go only to find out mother nature had different plans. This year the date was set for August 1st and we had decided whatever stood in our way we were going to fulfill our dream. So, at 5:30am we woke up, got in the car and headed up the canyon! We arrived at the Timpanooki trail head and started our hike up Timpanogos mountain. The sun hadn't come out yet and it was quite cold, but it was beautiful! The wild flowers were amazing! There were waterfalls, chipmunks, deer, mountain goats, snow, emerald lake, and some in our group even saw a moose! We had a fun group...my dad, brother Scott, sis-in law Chelsey, her sister Charee and husband Tanner, Stephan Moulton and wife Rachel, Amy Moulton Schmutz, Parker, and I. It was a long, rough hike, but we made it all the way to the top and got to look over the entire valley!!! I felt awesome to have achieved climbing the entire mountain with Parker. We stopped for lunch, and then headed back down. We slid down a glacier that never melts, it was SO steep. I was wearing my silk soccer shorts which immediately rode up and I had some pretty good bruises on the back of my legs (not as fun as I had remembered when I hiked it 4 times in high school). 1/2 way down I met up with Parker, I was freezing and hurting, so he let me use him as a human sled!!! It was great! At the bottom of the glacier it feeds into Emerald Lake. I had told Parker that I jumped in every time I have hiked Timp, so he decided to do it! He dove in, came up and couldn't talk for about a minute. It was freezing! I called him my polar bear the rest of the way down. The entire hike took us 9 1/2 hours! By the end we were tired, hungry, sun burnt, hurting from the waist down and SO happy that we had hiked Timp!

I was so proud of myself for not dying on the slide down.
It was so steep. Parker went first for our group and grabbed
2 rocks to hold and use as rudders, it worked so well that the
15-20 people watching on top grabbed rocks for themselves (it was funny)

Pumped and ready to jump

There's no turning back now!

He had to push through the ice to swim to shore! He's my polar bear!

way to go lizzy! I know you have been wanting to do that for such a long time. That is so much fun. I have yet to do it but I will...maybe next year you can show me the ropes. Anyway, pictures are great and you did great!

Go us! Are you still purple anywhere? Some of my toes are, but at least they don't hurt anymore. You really did get some amazing pictures of our hike. Such a fun time!
